The Fayette Local Board of Education held their meeting on Monday, April 17th. The meeting began at 6:30 p.m. with reports and updates from the building administration.

Superintendent Angela Belcher spoke first and advised the board that a $10,000 grant had been received from Job and Family Services.

This year, JFS chose to have each district submit a grant proposal for funding for students in grade 9-12.

Fayette’s proposal included the Digital Empowerment Project, additional field trips for Senior Seminars, including Worthington, Miller Brothers, Sauder Wood Working, and college visits to BGSU, Northwest State, University of Toledo, and Owens.

The proposal also included financial literacy programming as well as programming for assessments and interventions of mental health and emotional well-being.

Treasurer Kelly Bentley spoke next and informed the board that the school has applied for E-rate funding for categories 1 and 2 for 2023-2024.

Both amounts will offset Northern Buckeye Education Council costs set at $22,636.07 and $9,786.00.

High School Principal Jon Molter then addressed the board stating that, with Spring Break over, it is now a race to the finish.

The annual Senior Citizen Meal will be held on April 25th and the band concert will take place on May 1st.

The first Fayette BBC invitational for track this year will be held on May 13th. The baseball team will also be heading to Fifth Third Field in Toledo on May 9th to play against Stryker.

Elementary Principal Olivia Selgo spoke next and explained that the fifth-grade students celebrated their graduation from the D.A.R.E. program on April 6th.

State testing will begin on April 20th and kindergarten students have started their screening. There are currently 21 registered for next year.

Financial reports for March 2023 were then approved by the board along with a list of donations and personnel recommendations.

The board next moved to enter into executive session at 6:35 p.m. for personnel matters. The board returned at 6:46 p.m.

Following their return, the board approved the following agenda items.

An agreement with Dr. Theobald with Everside Clinic for physicals for bus and van drivers for FY 2023-2024.

An agreement with NwoESC for the Mentor Program for FY23. A three-year agreement with Normal Memorial Library to provide library services and educational programs for students in grades preschool to 12. The agreement begins on Jun 1st, 2023, and lasts until May 31st, 2026.

The board next moved to remove Kirk Keiser from financial accounts as an authorized signer at Premier Bank to then add Jason Kessler as an authorized signer for all active accounts.

Jason Kessler was then also added as an authorized signer for Sherwood State Bank accounts with all previously authorized board members being removed.

Next, the following colleges and universities were selected to offer students college credit plus for the 2023-2024 school year. Northwest State Community College, Owens Community College and Lourdes University.

Lastly, an agreement with the Gorham Fayette Teachers Association and the Fayette Local School Board was approved for three years. The agreement takes place on July 1st, 2023, to June 30th, 2026.
