Hilltop Girls, Montpelier Boys Win Tri-Meet With Edon

August 28th-MONTPELIER: Edon and Hilltop traveled to Superior Athletic Complex to run against Montpelier on Thursday. In the boys heat, 23 runners participated in the race. For the girls, 12 competitors took on the course.

It was the Hilltop girls who took the meet, taking four of the top five places for themselves, including first. Maddie Routhier won the race for the Lady Cadets, clocking in at 20:28. Teammate Landry Brown placed third at 21:48. Kara Brown took fourth place on the Cadets’ behalf with a time of 23:34. Bailey Funkhouser rounded out the top five at 25:23, handing fifth place to Hilltop.

Amidst the sea of red, Montpelier’s Jaqueline Carlson grabbed second place, turning in a 21:04. Haley earned eighth place for the Lady Locos with a 27:24. Just behind her at 27:45 was fellow Loco Jessica Earls, good for ninth place.


Edon’s top finisher, Brenda Harrington crossed the finish line at 26:50, taking sixth place.

For the boys, Montpelier won the event with three top five finishers. Jared Rediger took first place, running a 17:41. Locomotive Michael Blake finished second with a time of 18:18. Shawn Ramey, who gave Montpelier fifth place, ran a 19:24.

Sandwiched between Montpelier runners, a duo of Edon competitors brought third and fourth place finishes to their team. Justin Braun was the first Bomber to cross the line, clocking in at 18:24. Andrew LaDuke literally sprinted the homestretch of the race, beating out Montpelier’s Blake for fourth place at 19:23.

For the Cadets, Rylee McClain was first to finish at 19:44.
