The Lyons Village Council held their meeting on Monday, April 7. The meeting began at 7:00 p.m. with the approval of the previous meeting’s minutes, financial statements, and bills as presented.
Council then reviewed the employee report, during which it was noted that Sunny’s Campground is scheduled to open on April 25. The salt contract was also up for discussion, and council approved the purchase of 25 tons.
Discussion then turned to the village water tower. Funding options are still being explored, and the village is working with Verdantas on the project.
Council also considered purchasing new chairs for the office with a few options being available for members to test.
The certificate of estimated resources was received from the county and reviewed in relation to a levy that will appear on the ballot on November 4. It was noted that this is a renewal levy.
Bulk pickup is scheduled for April 19, and the Farmers Market will resume in May. Council also spoke about the new Economic Development Director, Jim Wyse of Archbold, with it being stated he brings significant experience to the role. Additionally, the annual FCEDC banquet will be held on April 24 at 5:00 p.m., with dinner to follow at 6:00 p.m.
Final appropriations were then approved before council heard from Fulton County Sheriff Sgt. Brian Marvin. In March, the department received 16 complaints. In February, deputies spent 69 hours in the village responding to 12 complaints and one accident.
Lastly, council discussed two local matters: the allowance of backyard chickens and the condition of certain village trees. Council approved allowing up to six chickens per household, provided they are kept in a fenced area. Roosters will not be permitted.
Regarding village trees, some were identified as needing trimming or removal. A list of affected trees was reviewed, and decisions were made on which should be trimmed and which removed. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:28 p.m.
