Mike Rafferty from the Evergreen Youth Association (EYA) addressed the Metamora Village Council at the February 22, 2021, 8 p.m., council meeting, concerning the use of the ball fields this summer.

There will not be any Spring Softball but they would like to be up and running for the summer. Council approved a motion to let them use the Pavilion for Sign-up Days on March 7 and 14, with no charge.

They also approved the use of the Fields, restrooms and Concession Stand for practices and games April 1 through July 4, 2021.

There was some discussion about the Concession Stand and Rafferty said that they are discussing the possibility of selling Pre-packaged items only along with drinks like Gatorade.

Council voted to approve the February 1 minutes and the reading and payment of the bills. Also approved was a request by Fiscal Officer Sue Clendenin for a $2000 increase in expense account Miscellaneous Contractual (for snow removal and snowplow expense.).

The Personnel and Finance Committee Report from Karon Lane. Lane said that after some checking, the committee recommends to council that they change from Century Link to Spectrum in order to get better internet connectivity.

Council passed a motion to do so “barring any unforeseen problems.” Lane also said the committee wants to combine some of the job descriptions to make them clearer and council approved.

It was also agreed that the wording on the Job Application for the village needs to be updated as they are no longer allowed to ask about conviction of a felony.

Land and Buildings Committee report was given by John Pupos who said that the bridges have been rated above four which means they are safe. Curbside Sanitation has been moved from September 11 to September 25, 2021. Pupos said they are getting a quote on fence repair at the water plant.

It was recommended that as Karon Lane will not be renewing her license as a Notary when it runs out in a year, they should offer to pay for Elizabeth Ryan to take the class and become a Notary so that the village has one in the office.

Council voted to approve a motion on that and Ryan is looking into whether she wants to become a notary.

Some discussion was held on welding needed on one of the bridge walkways this summer and some pine trees in front of the old Metamora UM Church that might need to be removed.

Short Funeral Home

Mayor Richard Sauerlender gave the Sheriff’s report saying that they were in town for 40 hours patrolling, with five complaints in all, of which all were taken care.

With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
