On July 8th, 2021, the Pettisville Schools Board of Education convened for their regular monthly meeting.
The meeting agenda included a special request presented by Jeff Wyse, who is the son of 93-year-old Arvada Rupp (Shantz), a resident of Archbold.
Arvada went to school at Pettisville and was part of the Class of 1949. However, during her last year of school, she and her husband became married.
Due to this taking place before graduating, she was not able to continue with her school and was forced out of class by the school.
After turning 93 years old, Arvada expressed to her son her biggest regret, which was not being able to finish school.
For this reason, Wyse approached the school and asked if there was any way they could issue her a diploma. The school accepted and presented it to Arvada with the correct date and year of her graduation.
The diploma now sits on Arvada’s dining room table and is a source of emotion for her when she speaks about her experience.
