Residents gathered Sunday evening in Pioneer to celebrate America’s upcoming 250th birthday with a patriotic community event filled with music, fellowship, food, and a nighttime drone show.
The celebration, titled “Pioneer Celebrates America’s 250th Birthday, One Nation Under God,” took place on May 17, 2026.
The day marked historical significance — the date honors the Continental Congress resolution first passed on May 17, 1776, which declared a national day of fasting and prayer just weeks before the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.
Festivities began at 6:00 p.m. with a community church service and the Pioneer American Legion presenting colors.
Inspirational messages were shared by Pastor Craig Bard and Mayor Ed Kidston as attendees gathered near the Pioneer Community Center for the event.
A free chicken dinner followed shortly after. Throughout the evening, Common Bond Music Ministry performed live music as neighbors mingled and enjoyed the warm spring weather.
The night concluded with a drone show at 9:30 p.m., presented by Starlight Aerial Productions. The show included iconic American symbols such as the flag and moving soldiers.
In addition to the entertainment, commemorative coins honoring America’s 250th birthday and Pioneer history were gifted to 300 lucky community members.
A raffle ticket was sent to each resident using Pioneer Utilities, and a random drawing was held during the event to see which community member won.

If selected, Pioneer residents could pick up their one-of-a-kind coin at the Community Center during the celebration.
Village employees will be contacting residents throughout the next week to pick up their coins as needed.
The evening served as both a local celebration and an early commemoration leading into the nationwide America 250 festivities recognizing 250 years since the founding of the United States in 1776.
