On Sunday, the children of Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church solved the Mystery of the Manger.
Performing the play “Mystery of the Manger” for the congregation, kids of various ages sang, danced, and joked their way into the hearts of all in attendance. The piece itself takes an interesting angle to tell the Christmas story as well.
The show revolves around a church choir, celebrating the day before the day before Christmas, December 23, because they can’t wait to celebrate Christ’s birthday. An investigative reporter from The Morning Star newspaper, Jane Blond, intrudes upon their joyous practice, demanding answers to the Jesus story, and skeptically questions whether or not the whole thing is made up.
Throughout the course of the play, the choir patiently teaches Blond about Christ, using both song and the bible to do so. By the end of the performance, she writes her article, proclaiming that the mystery of the manger is solved, and that the Christmas story is all true.
This was a unique way to express the meaning of Christmas, as the audience sees the story from Blond’s perspective. Because of this, the explanations are more thorough and engaging.
This performance was a great success and quite entertaining to watch.
