The Springfield Township Trustees held a regular meeting on Wednesday, March 25, with trustees Ed Ruffer, Steve Planson, and Eric Creighton in attendance.
Following the roll call and Pledge of Allegiance, the trustees approved the minutes of the March 11 meeting and the monthly bills as presented.
Trustees approved an application for a Class D-1 Liquor License Permit for KMAJ LLC, doing business as Hidden Valley Campground, 04137 County Road 25, Archbold.
Trustees also waived their right to request a hearing before the Ohio Department of Commerce regarding the liquor permit application, which covers liquor consumption on the campground premises.
Fiscal Officer Patti Rosebrock received a sales and use tax exemption certificate for the chip-and-seal road project this summer, submitted by Ward Construction of Leipsic.
She said the certificate must be signed by the township and retained by the prime contractor.
Ruffer gave an update on drainage concerns in the Hickory Hills Subdivision, saying he hopes to have the ditches reshaped this summer, to see how the water flows, and to assess the situation afterward.
“At this time, we have no plans to do more tiling work in the subdivision,” said Ruffer. I think the biggest thing is we get the ditches shaped and keep those catch basins open where they flow.”
Ruffer also recently spoke with County Commissioner Bart Westfall about potential data center development in the county.
Westfall suggested bringing together five township trustees from around the county and said he would arrange a meeting with a speaker to discuss the pros and cons of data center development.
“I don’t think there is going to be a whole lot we need to do, just get back with him (Westfall) and tell him we’ll have a township representative there,” said Ruffer. “I think Todd Burkholder should go to the meeting.”
In other action, the trustees tabled the purchase of four new tires for the Springfield Township Fire Department’s Freightliner Tanker.
Road Supervisor Mike Short will visit McMahon’s Best One Tire in Bryan to compare tire brands for the tanker.
Creighton made a motion to approve Brady Ruffer to serve on the zoning commission. There is one seat yet to be filled on the zoning commission.
Rosebrock presented a recent issue of the Ohio Township Magazine which included a small article featuring former longtime township trustee Rusty Goebel.
The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the township office.
