(PRESS RELEASE) STONY RIDGE – On October 9, 2023 at approximately 2:25 p.m., troopers from the Bowling Green Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Luckey Road at Hanley Road in Lake Township, Wood County.

Phyllis Ashworth, 77, Millbury, was driving a 2006 Buick LaCrosse westbound on Hanley Road and was stopped at the stop sign at Luckey Road.

Justin W. Werner, 21, Perrysburg, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado southbound on Luckey Road.

Ashworth failed to yield the right-of-way at the stop sign and struck Werner’s vehicle. Werner then traveled off the west side of Luckey Road and struck a street sign. Werner over-corrected, went off the east side of Luckey Road and struck a utility pole.

Mr. Werner was transported to Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo by Mercy Health Life Flight with life-threatening injuries. Ashworth was transported to Mercy Health – Perrysburg Hospital by Lake Township EMS with minor injuries.

Werner was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Lake Township Police Department, Lake Township Fire and EMS, Perrysburg Township Fire Department, Allen-Clay Joint Fire Department, Ray’s Service Center & Towing, and Toledo Edison.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol strongly reminds motorists to use caution at all stop signs and to wear a safety belt.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
