In a meeting held on Monday, February 17th, the village of Stryker discussed funding for their water tower project. Officials are working to secure additional grant funds for the project, which is estimated to cost $771,000.
The village has already received a grant of $325,000 from the Ohio Public Works Commission and has obtained approval for a 20-year, no-interest loan from the EPA amounting to $162,500. However, the village still needs an additional $280,000 to fully fund the project.
Beth Rediger, the Village Fiscal Officer, stated that she is trying to secure the remaining funds through the Community Development Block Grant.
She has contacted Maumee Valley Planning to facilitate the application process, which is set to be presented on March 7th.
While grant allocations typically rotate, Rediger believes that there may be available funds based on her observations during a recent Maumee Valley Planning meeting.
During the meeting, Mayor Beck discussed a housing project proposed for Stryker. The Columbus-based developer, Woda Cooper Companies Inc., has plans to construct 50 apartments behind the Dollar General on South Defiance Street.
An application for state grant funding will be submitted for the project next week. While pursuing this grant, the village has received several letters of support from various organizations in the area.
Both the Williams County Commissioners and the Fulton County Commissioners have expressed their support for the project.
Additionally, the Williams County Commissioners have provided a letter of support for a competing senior housing community project in Bryan.
Mayor Beck believes this housing project will benefit not only Stryker but also the surrounding areas, as it allows people to live in one location while working in another. This will ultimately benefit the local economy.
The project is expected to generate tax revenue, and Beck hopes that the board’s decision will be based on the merits of the application rather than on political influences.
“I think there’s value in both. I really do.” “I think if we look at what is needed, we need housing; we need a place for someone to stay”, he said.
