A subject that fled and escaped from police was captured the next day. The incident began on Sunday, December 11th in Bryan.
On December 1, 2024, at approximately 9:30 PM, the Bryan Police Department received information that Zachary Chervenka, age 32, from Butler, Indiana, was reported to have an active arrest warrant and was seen at Bryan Walmart.
Officers confirmed the warrant and attempted to make contact with Mr. Chervenka. During the encounter, Mr. Chervenka entered his vehicle and fled the scene with two children inside.
While officers pursued the vehicle, an infant was ejected from the moving car, although this was not observed by officers at the time. Due to hazardous weather conditions and high speeds, the pursuit was terminated. Both children were located, and the infant was transported to Toledo Hospital for further evaluation.
The next day, Edgerton Mayor Robert Day released a statement via Facebook detailing the capture of Chervenka.
“After evading law enforcement on Sunday with a car chase throughout the county, including the Village of Edgerton, Zachary Chervenka, 32, was apprehended by the Edgerton Police Department with Chief Jacob and his K9 officer, Ruin, running the suspect down, who was hiding out in Edgerton.”
“The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the apprehension. Bryan Police Department arrested the man on an outstanding warrant with other charges pending.”
“Kudos to the Edgerton Police Department. Our K9 officer is named ‘Ruin’ for a reason, and he loves to take a ‘bite’ out of crime!”
