WAUSEON – After 20 years as the headman of the Wauseon baseball program, Trent Thomas announced his resignation via a post on X.

“After 20 years coaching Wauseon baseball at Wauseon High School, I’m filled with a mix of emotions- gratitude, nostalgia, and excitement for the next chapter,” Thomas began.

“It has been one of the greatest blessings of my life to coach such talented young individuals and be part of this remarkable baseball program and community,” added Thomas, who accepted a position as Assistant Principal at Wauseon High School.

“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Wauseon School Staff, Administration and the Athletic Department. Your unwavering support and dedication to our program is unmatched. To our current administration, thank you for the opportunities you afforded me.”

“To my coaching friends around the state and especially those closest to me in NW Ohio thank you for your camaraderie and sportsmanship.”

“The relationships we’ve built and the friendly rivalries we’ve shared have made every season memorable. Your dedication to nurturing young talent inspired me to get better, and I am grateful for all the knowledge and insights you shared with me throughout the years.”

During his 20 years, the Indians won three NWOAL titles, including going back-to-back in 2013 and 2014, the school’s first league championship since 1994.

“To the parents of both former and current players, your trust and involvement in the program have been the backbone of our success.”

“Thank you for giving me the opportunity to coach your sons, being our greatest supporters, surviving the cold spring evenings, and for your encouragement in both victories and defeats. Your commitment to your children’s growth and development has been truly inspiring,” he continued.

“To the many former and current assistant coaches who have dedicated their time, energy and knowledge to us over the years, your passion for the game and the ability to inspire our athletes was instrumental in the success of our program.”

“Each of you brought unique strengths and insights that contributed to countless victories on and off the field as well as the life lessons that the game of baseball teaches.”

“Thank you for your tireless work and commitment to our program. Your impact will be felt for years to come, and I am truly grateful for your friendship”

“To all our former and current players, thank you for the memories. Coaching you has been my privilege and a joy. Each of you has left an indelible mark on my heart.”

“Watching you grow not only as athletes but as individuals has been the most rewarding aspect of my career. Remember that baseball is a game, but the lessons you learn on the field will carry you through life.”

“Moving forward I take countless cherished memories and a heart full of gratitude. Thank you all for being part of this incredible journey. I look forward to cheering on the next generation of Wauseon Baseball and supporting the program in any way I can,” he closed.

This past season, Wauseon went 10-13 (3-4 NWOAL) and fell in the Division IV district semifinals to Napoleon.
