MONTPELIER (April 2, 2026) – Evergreen’s boys and girls track teams got out the broom as the Vikings swept their way to capturing the Montpelier Early Bird Track Invitational at Pete Dreher Track Facility.
The Vikings claimed the boys title with 193 points followed by North Central (128), Montpelier (108), Camden-Frontier (81½), Hilltop (57), Fayette (35) and Stryker (16½).
Evergreen captured just three individual and three relay titles while taking advantage of its individual scoring depth to win the crown.
Leading the way for Evergreen was Ben Hoffman, who captured the 400-meter crown with a time of 56.55 seconds. Will Ruetz took the 110 hurdles (16.02) and Daniel Hernandez won the 300 hurdles (45.81).
The Vikings also added first-place victories in the 400 (44.91), 800 (1:38.27) and 1600 (3:58.55) relay events.
Montpelier had a pair of individual titlists in Logan Pontious and Braylon Hopper. Pontious swept both the shot put (56-3) and discus (159-0) events. Hopper took both the 100 (10.91) and 200 (21.99) meter dashes.
North Central’s Jett Roose captured a pair of individual titles, winning the 800 (2:17.86) and 1600 (4:53.47) meter runs. The Eagles also won the 3200 relay (9:33.55).
Other individual winners included North Central’s Carter Eckley in the 3200 (11:05.52) and Talen Reinbolt in the pole vault, along with Hilltop’s Drew Bailey in the high jump (5-10).
Evergreen put together a dominating performance in winning the girls title with 192 points followed by Stryker (122½), Hilltop (91½), Montpelier (81), Camden-Frontier (48), Fayette (36) and North Central (26).
Hallie Bryan led the Vikings with a pair of individual titles in the 100 (13.48) and long jump (15-2). Charlotte Dilley won the 3200 (15:10.12), Alivia Mitchey the high jump (4-4) and Callie Wyse the pole vault (8-0).
The Vikings also won the 400 (56.8) and 800 (1:59.31) relay events.
Addison Schang of Fayette, Kharleigh Kitchen of Montpelier and Khloe Goebel of Stryker each won a pair of individual event titles.
Schang prevailed in the 800 (2:47.26) and 1600 (6:01.25). Kitchen swept both the 100 (17.35) and 300 (51.18) hurdle events. Goebel claimed the shot put (28-5) and discus (99-0) titles.
Hilltop claimed a pair of titles in the 1600 (4:39.12) and 3200 (11:18.37) relay events.
