WAUSEON (April 6, 2026) – After a rocky first three hitters, Wauseon pitcher Breah Teal shut down Edon on just four singles.
And after giving up three runs in the top of the first, Indian hitters retaliated with a big 10-spot in the bottom of the inning. Add it all up and the sum was an 18-3 Wauseon victory that pushed the Tribe to 5-1 on the season.
Teal walked the first two hitters of the game, then Madison Ogden rocketed a ball far over the left field fence to boost the Bombers up 3-0 and brought a trip to the mound from Indian coach Ralph Leija.
“I had to come out there and challenge her,” Leija explained of the mound visit. “I told her it’s either you or them and you better decide because I think it’s going to be you, but you have to do it mentally.
“The biggest thing for her is to remember that she has the rest of her teammates. They are gamers, they are ready to go.”
“She just had to settle down, and she did and after that 10-spot, well, she really settled down.” Leija’s words of inspiration worked as Teal didn’t walk another batter and gave up four hits in her five innings.
Meanwhile in the bottom of the inning, that three-run deficit disappeared in a hurry. Bella McGuire tripled off Edon starter to lead off the inning.
Abigail Kissel followed with an RBI single, and a walk along with a hit batter loaded the bases. Addy Baldwin drew a walk to force in a run, then Lila Schindler rapped a two-run single up the middle to put the Indians up for keeps.
A bounce out plated another run, then two more walks and an error marked a sixth and left the bases loaded.
Shelbi Leija unloaded the sacks when she drilled a grand-slam homer to right-center that made it 10-3. “The biggest thing with these girls is that we have worked last season and this season for hits,” Leija said.
“We have tried to make them hitters by making those adjustments quick, during an inning, during an at-bat. They are really making it work right now.”
Wauseon chalked up five more in the second with Kissel delivering the big blow, a two-run double, followed by Leija’s run-producing double to rocket the gap to 15-3.
Kissel homered in the bottom of the fourth, and later in the inning, Josie Russell banged a two-run homer with the prevailing jet stream to right-center to end the scoring.
The Indians scored their 18 runs on 14 hits with Kissel leading the way with three knocks on the day. McGuire, Leija and Baldwin each added a pair of hits for the Indians.
