PIONEER – The Village of Pioneer is planning to build a new splash pad in town for its residents. The project is currently in its preliminary stages as far as designs go.

The village will receive $200,000 through a grant which will be put towards the project. The grant money is a part of the state budget process and will be allocated to the village once the budget is set by the state.

According to Mayor Ed Kidston, the Legion Auxiliary has also offered to kick in some additional dollars along with what the village will supply. Additional help from local businesses and organizations may also take place.

Currently the hope is to build a splash pad that comes in around $400,000 to $500,000, with the amount subject to change. The location is also subject to change but is currently expected to be put in Cromer Park, however it is too early to tell.

Mayor Kidston also explained that village public works employees will do a good deal of the work to create the pad.

“We are going to make a nice park, but we are not sure yet how big it will be,” said Mayor Kidston. Hope was expressed to have the park open for Spring of 2025.
