(January 28th, 2015) – WAUSEON: With their school serving as a hosting site for the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s (OHSAA) Team Duals wrestling tournament, the Indians of Wauseon were pumped up and ready to go for their first match.
Fostoria found that out the hard way, as Wauseon dominated the contest 66-6.
It should be mentioned that Fostoria was forced to forfeit 5 times in the competition. However, when Wauseon did have to wrestle, they had little trouble dispensing of their opponents. Indian Jackson Sluder, weighing in at 170 pounds, pinned Fostoria’s Kaonte Payton in 27 seconds. At 132 pounds, Sandro Ramirez was able to rack up another win for Wauseon, winning an 11-2 decision ove Hariket Bilodia. Tre Campbell had a bit of a battle against Fostoria’s Gabe Thompson, though the Wauseon wrestler was able to pin his foe in 3:14.
After the convincing victory in the first match of the evening, Wauseon took on Napoleon.
This contest proved to be a bit more difficult than the previous one, but it still wasn’t nearly as close as the 42-25 margin would indicate in the Wauseon victory. A pair of forfeits produced 12 of those 25 points for Napoleon. And though they did score a few wins in the upper weight classes, the Wildcats were mostly outmatched by the hometown Indians. For the 145 pound class, Wade Hodges scored a big win for Wauseon, pinning Josh Miller in 44 seconds. At 126 pounds, Indian Andrew Bailey won a tight 6-4 decision over Skyler Brown. Meanwhile, weighing in at 160 pounds, Dylan Nicely forced Napoleon’s Zach Altman into a technical forfeit at 5:50 into the bout.
Wauseon will take part in the OHSAA Team Dual Regional Semi-Finals on Wednesday, February 4 in Toledo.
