Jeff is a fifth grade teacher at Northmont City Schools, was named Educator of the Year by his school district, and was nominated for the Ohio Teacher of the Year Award. Spieles is a 1994 graduate of Wauseon High School and an alumnus of the University of Dayton and The Ohio State University.
According to Jeff, “Writing has been a hobby of mine since I was a child. Now as a teacher, I have found storytelling to be a powerful way of engaging students.”
His first Novel “In Sherman’s Path” was a forage into young adult historical fiction on the Civil War. His latest book, “Echoes of an Outlaw’s Curse” is an adventurous young adult mystery.
According to the book jacket,”When Cameron Rensler’s mother died unexpectedly, his world was turned upside-down. Those who meant well told him to move on, but closure was impossible for Cam. And for good reason. His mother had not moved on. She appeared to him in her garden, in the kitchen, at his school—everywhere they had made memories together. Unable to keep the apparitions to himself, Cam confided in his close friend Madison Blaylock. Despite Maddie’s confidence, Cam’s secret was spilled publicly, landing him in the psychiatric ward. Years later, 15-year-old Cam faces another crisis. After horseback riding alone, Maddie has gone missing. When she is rescued, she exhibits signs of mental disturbance. Cam is asked to help her, forcing him to confront the dark memories of his own ordeal. This time she confides in him, and her strange encounter makes them both question their sanity. Maddie’s story sparks a late night mission into the deepest recesses of Deadman’s Trace, a mysterious place steeped in history where the dead keep secrets of their own. For Cam, it’s a journey toward an unsettling truth about himself—and about what happened to his mother—that will turn his reality into his worst nightmare.”
