(April 4th, 2015) – WAUSEON: It wasn’t until the fourth inning that Wauseon broke the game open. Before that point, the contest had been deadlocked in a 1-1 tie.
The final score was quite different, as The Indians defeated Lima Shawnee 6-2.
Lima was the first to strike, scoring their first run in the top of the opening inning. Wauseon answered in the bottom of the second, knocking in a run themselves. The third inning was an uneventful one, as neither team could add to their respective totals.
Then, in the bottom of the fifth, Wauseon unleashed their offensive prowess upon their guests from Lima. The Indian boys saw 5 of their runners cross home plate, giving them a strong 6-1 advantage. Lima Shawnee tacked on another run to their total, but couldn’t get any closer as Wauseon won by 4 runs.
Jacob Newlove led the way for Wauseon with 2 RBIs. The senior went 1 for 4 from the plate. Collin Stump, Jeremiah Kauffman, and Travis Smith also added RBIs for the Indians.
Peyten Shadbolt pitched for 5 innings on Wauseon’s behalf. In that span, he gave up 1 earned run on 3 hits. He also struck out 5 batters, walking 4. Caleb Andrews finished the game from the mound, giving up no runs and striking out a Lima batter.
