(Friday, May 8th 2015): WAUSEON—Coming off of a three-game losing streak, the Wauseon Indians varsity team refused to be taken for a ride against Liberty Center. The lady Indians boasted their offensive prowess late in the game to defeat the Tigers.
Hayley Chamberlain, a Junior, led the team on the mound for the Indians. Liberty Center would lead off in the top of the first inning getting one run in off of Chamberlain; Wauseon would retaliate in the bottom of the 2nd innings to even the score at 1-1. One inning later the Indians scored two more runs to advance their lead to 3-1.
After one scoreless inning, Liberty Center managed to score another run; however, in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Indians accumulated a total of 6 runs to allow a comfortable 9-2 lead. The Indians were able to then allow only 1 more run in the final inning of play before ending a three-game losing streak claiming a 9-3 victory over the Tigers.
Jordan Sloan and Erin Douglass both hit three singles, scoring 2 runs each. Junior Oliviah Banister scored a run and two RBIs on two hits and a walk. Freshman Ally Tefft drove in three runs on two hits, scoring 1 run herself. Ashley Smith had a double and knocked out a home run totaling 2 runs and 2 RBIs.
Wauseon will play at Defiance High School on Monday in the last regular game of the season.
