This summer in July, the United Methodist Church has been given an incredible opportunity to serve others in Nicaragua. An eleven person team from West Unity and Archbold will be working on project Chacocente. Project Chacocente began in 2003 working to completely transform lives by relocating families from the Managua City Dump to an agricultural community away from the dump.
These families agreed to live in a covenant Christian community to learn to read and write, to build their own homes, to farm the land, to solve problems and to be more knowledgeable parents. Recognizing that education is the key to overcoming poverty the Chacocente Christian School was founded in 2005. Today, the school provides a tuition-free, full day program, including a nutritious lunch, to the children of the Project as well as those from the surrounding neighborhood. Today, Project Chacocente remains committed to helping the people of Nicaragua to have and maintain a school and continuing educational opportunities, safe living conditions, improved homes and assure access to safe drinking water. For more information about Chacocente go to www.outofthedump.org.
We are excited about the opportunity and experience that lie ahead and believe that God has called us to be a part of this mission trip. We are inviting you to join us in this adventure. We are asking for your support in two ways: prayer and finances. Both are essential to our team’s success and the continuing ministry of Project Chacocente.
The West Unity United Methodist Church will be raising funds for the trip and expenses for the project they will work on while there. The estimated cost per person is $1600.00 (airfare and all expenses). Anyone wishing to support this ministry can help by sending tax-deductible contributions (payable to “West unity UMC”) to the church at P.O. Box 503, West Unity, OH 43570 or by donating online at pushpay.com/pay/westunityumc.
