The Williams County Commissioners met in regular session last Tuesday and Thursday, with Tuesday starting with the Veteran’s quarterly meeting, where the services that help provide support to veterans were detailed.

The impacts of PTSD were highlighted, as were the department’s help with medical, transportive, and facilitating survivors’ services to those affected. They shared how everything is becoming more user friendly, with technology providing for more remote services.

The department’s finances were then discussed, with it being shared that they are hard at work bringing funds in for Williams County veterans.

Discussion was held on a July 14th fundraising celebration, with the plans still being solidified. After a 9:30 a.m. executive session and conversation pertaining to replacing the carpet in some of the Williams County Courthouse’s office spaces, the commissioners approved resolutions providing for transfer requests, contracts with JFS, and signed the 2024 Asphalt Paving Contract, and a permit for use of courthouse grounds.

After the approval of their April 18, 2024 meeting minutes and the bills as presented, they agreed to provide for an increase in budget for the Prosecutor’s Office to address the change of an employee from 40 to 60 hour work weeks.

Commissioner Lew Hilkert was thanked for his help with the Williams County 200th, as was everyone involved in the celebration.

Projects for the community improvement project were presented to the commissioners, with it being decided to wait to pick a final project until the CDBG grant is awarded.

It was also shared that the waterline has seen multiple issues, with it being shared that a bid should soon be seen out for several repairs.

Thursday saw general session beginning at 9 a.m., where the commissioners approved resolutions providing for transfer requests, agreements with JFS, participation in the 2024 ODOT road salt contracts, and signed credit card expenditures, the minutes from Tuesday, and the bills as submitted.

They adjourned for the day after a 10 a.m. bid opening, set to meet next on Tuesday at 9 a.m. for Coffee with the Commissioners at Millcreek Coffee and Cones in West Unity.
