KEEPING WITH TRADITION … The locally famous potato salad is one of the many delicious things that Heather has worked hard to keep true to the original recipe.

If you’ve ever traveled between West Unity and Pulaski, chances are you’ve passed right by Red Hen Country Market.

Having been a successful venture for years, Heather Jones worked hard to provide the same quality goods that the community had come to know and love.

After spending 14 years with the YMCA in Bryan, Heather felt like an opportunity to put her love of cooking to use came up when the market found itself up for sale and opened for business June 1st, 2021.

“There was a bit of a learning curve as far as owning your own business and learning things about that, but it was kind of an easy start up because everyone already loved the food to begin with.”

“It is nice to be your own boss. Like if you must leave, you can. Especially because I’ve inherited a great staff and hired some pretty great people who are really great to work with.”

“I’d like to say there’s flexibility, but really, I’m here all the time,” Jones laughed, highlighting the hard work it takes to make a business successful.

While Heather has started some new things, like lunch specials and family dinners, some things have no plans on changing -like their locally famous potato salad.

Not only is Heather active in commerce, she is also active in her community, and serves as a proud member of the Millcreek-West Unity Local School Board.

Sometimes her husband, West Unity’s own Police Chief JR Jones, comes and helps out at the market, while also getting to spend some time with his wife.

The market is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Heather is currently working on new lunch specials, take-home dinners, raising her two daughters, being a devoted wife, and being involved with her community all while putting in all the effort it takes to run a local business in Northwest Ohio.
