Wayne D. Henry, 81, of Montpelier, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on August 2, 2018. He was born on December 11, 1936 in Superior Township to Willis G. and Donna M. (Fried) Henry. Wayne attended a one room schoolhouse until the 8th grade and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1954. On June 28, 1957 Wayne married Donna V. Allomong, who preceded him in death in 1990. On August 16, 1991, Wayne married Wanda M. Pendleton and she survives.
Wayne farmed all of his life with his dad “Stub” and his son Tim until his retirement in 2007. He still helped Tim with the yearly planting up until this past fall. Wayne also worked at The Body Works in Montpelier, Aro Corporation in Bryan and Hause Machines in Montpelier, Farm Bureau and Feed Mill both in Montpelier, Chase Brass and Montpelier Auto Auction both in Holiday City. He liked to go to Rowe’s each morning to play cards and enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Wayne was a member of the Montpelier Moose and was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Montpelier.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Wanda Henry of Montpelier; one son, Timothy (Vonda) Henry of Montpelier; two daughters, Alexis Becker and Stacy (Doran) DeMara of Montpelier; two step daughters, Sherry Dixon of Perrysburg and Michelle Shirkey of Clear Water, FL; five grandchildren, Chase (Hallie) Henry, Breanna Henry, Kayce DeMara, Seth (Kaitlyn) Stevens and Sydney Webster; three great grandchildren, Braxton and Brayson Henry and RaeLynn Stevens; two brothers, Dan (Mary) Henry of Greenville, TX and Jim (Marsha) Henry of Portland, OR; and one step sister-in-law, Ellen Shepard of Linwood, MI
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; step mother, Ruth Henry; first wife, Donna Henry; son-in-law Kent Becker; granddaughter Kayla DeMara; great granddaughter, Brier Henry; and step brother, Grant Shepard.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 6, 2018 from 3-8 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Montpelier with Pastor Paul Gruetter to officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier. Memorial contributions may be given to CHP Hospice or to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
