Alice Masters (1932-2018)

Alice I. Masters, 86, of Montpelier, and a Williams County resident all of her life, passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Genesis Healthcare Bryan Center in Bryan.

She was born on September 19, 1932 in Superior Township to Raymond L. and Roby C. (Gilcher) Miller. Alice graduated from Montpelier High School in 1950 and then attended Hillsdale College for one year.

She retired in 1991 after 17 years at the Williams County General Hospital in the dietary department. Alice was a former secretary at T.O.P.S. in Montpelier for many years. She also was a member and active in the Mary Martha Circle at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Montpelier.  Alice never met a stranger.

Alice is survived by her two children, Sharon (Chris) Lyman of Edon and Thomas A. Masters of Montpelier; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Donald L. Masters in 1973; daughter, Sandra Layman in 1994; son, Michael Masters in 2001; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Masters in 2007; grandson, Russell Layman in 1983; and sister, Margaret McAdams in 2014.


Visitation for Alice will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 from 1-2 pm at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Paul Gruetter to officiate. Alice will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier.

Memorials may be given to Great Lakes Hospice.
