Carroll Kern, 74, of Kunkle, died Monday morning, February 3, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 3, 1939, in Shelby, IA, to the late Edmun and Lela (Stahlnecker) Kern. He married Lori Lambright on September 28, 1974, in Oak Grove, MO, and she survives.
Carroll grew up on a farm in Missouri, and graduated from Salem High School. He learned carpentry from his father and older brother, and used his talents in his career in building and roofing in many parts of the country. He assisted in building the Kansas City Chiefs Stadium in Kansas City, MO.
“Kern” is remembered as a proud father who never knew a stranger. He had a deep reverence for his country and truly enjoyed life. He loved to tell stories and jokes, and also enjoyed fishing and western movies.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 39 years, Lori, are a daughter, Pheobie (Jeremy) Hanover of Sherwood, OH; adopted children of his heart, John (Brenda) Shoup of Nashville, MI, Robert (Dianne) Shoup of Sunfield, MI, and Diana (Ron) Demond of Hastings, MI; a sister, Donna (Paul) Light of Cummings, GA; two grandchildren, Samantha and Mara; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved canine companion, Tiger.
Greeting Carroll in Heaven when he arrived were his precious loved ones gone before him, including his parents; a daughter, Cathe Alerding; and seven siblings, Russell Kern, Mary Elder, Edmun Kern, Lois Monk, Duane Kern, Dean Kern, and Bradie Kern.
