James “Jim” Prather, Jr. (1949-2020)

James O. “Jim” Prather, Jr., 71, of Montpelier passed away early Friday morning at his home. He was born on February 9, 1949 in Cub Run, Kentucky to James O. and Nelda B. (Kerr) Prather, Sr.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Marines. On January 8, 1991 he married Nelda M. Keeler and she survives. For over 40 years Jim worked at Hayes Albion in Bryan in the old ’50 Division.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading.

Jim is survived by his wife Nelda M. Prather of Montpelier; children Anita (Tom) Klein of Munfordville, Kentucky, Tony (Sandra) Prather of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Terry (Angela) Prather of Wolcottville, Indiana, Jacob Prather of Montpelier, and Christina (Kyle) Helton of Cincinnati, Ohio; seven grandchildren Brian Prather, Libby Klein, Eric Klein, Alex Klein, James Prather, Bryan Prather and Eli Prather; three great grandchildren Callie, Kennedy and Karysn Prather; siblings Donald Lee (Linda) Prather of Napoleon, Sandy (Lawrence) Johnson of Horse Cave, Kentucky, Roy (Sharon) Prather of Louisville, Kentucky, Lana (Harold) Carroll of Munfordville, Kentucky and David Prather of Munfordville, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Minnie Della and brothers Everett Leon, Jackie Dale and Richard Lee.

Visitation for Jim will be on Tuesday, December 22nd from 2-7pm at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier.  Services will follow at 7pm at the funeral home. Montpelier Veterans will provide military honors at 2pm at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Due to the ongoing pandemic, those wishing to attend are asked to maintain social distance and bring a mask, as one will be required.
