Marilyn A. (Getz) Miller, age 91, of Wauseon, passed away peacefully in her sleep as her daughters held her hands, on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, after a brief stay at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home Rehab in Archbold. Marilyn was born in Perrysburg, Ohio on October 5, 1929, to the late John and Winifred (Lee) Getz.

She would later marry the love of her life, Edward Miller, in Angola, Indiana on June 15, 1948 and then they hopped on Ed’s Harley to begin their new life together. They were happily married for 56 years and he preceded her in death in 2004.

Marilyn spent her childhood years on a farm in Lyons, Ohio where she milked the cows, fed the chickens and learned to drive a tractor at age 9 to help her family.  She always said they were poor, but she never knew it because they were so happy.

Marilyn was a supportive, protective and devoted wife and mother.  She was an excellent cook and baked the best pies. She was an active supporter of her daughter’s and grandson’s education where she volunteered in the classroom, chaperoned field trips, coached summer softball and attended every concert.

She scrimped and sacrificed so her daughters were able to attend college and she was so proud to attend their graduations. When her Husband, Ed, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, she made vegetable gardens for him and cared for him at home until the day he died.  Marilyn was a hard worker her whole life.

She began working in high school at the Winorr Canning Factory. After graduating from Wauseon High School, she worked at the telephone company, The Fulton County Court House, Lewis Jewelry Store, Louisville Title and finally for attorneys Robert Saxer and Mark Powers.

She took pride in her professionalism and dedication to her employers. Marilyn loved music and singing and she had a beautiful voice. She once even skipped school to attend a Frank Sinatra concert. She also directed the children’s choir at the First Congregational Church and she served as treasurer of the Wauseon Music Boosters.

Every night after dinner, Marilyn would play the piano while her husband played the banjo and the whole family would sing songs by Patsy Cline, Les Paul and Mary Ford. Marilyn was fearless and had a wonderful sense of humor.

She met every adversity in her life with determination and plowed through whatever came her way. She taught her daughters the same lesson.  They learned to be strong, independent and let nothing stand in the way of achieving their dreams.  Marilyn loved all her family with her whole heart and they loved her right back, which is why she will be so deeply missed.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Ann (Rob) Oberski; Carol Tiffany (Tracy Behrman); grandson Alex Tiffany (Samantha Stripe); nephews, Tom (Georgette) Getz; Neil (Rita) Getz; grand nephews, Neil, Jr., Jon, David and Tom Getz; sister-in-law, Joan (Don) Merrill and nieces, Barbara Barber; Jill Godzyk and Amy Wyatt.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Getz and sister, Marjorie Schneider.

In keeping with the family’s wishes, there will be no public visitation and memorial services for Marilyn will be private for the family.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing a show of sympathy are asked to consider The Fulton County Humane Society, 14720Co. Rd. J, Wauseon, Ohio 43567, The Wauseon Music Boosters, c/o Wauseon High School, 840 Parkview St., Wauseon, Ohio 43567, or The First Church of God, 507 N. Fulton St., Wauseon, Ohio 43567.

Arrangements were entrusted to Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St. Hwy. 109, Delta.  Online condolences may be sent to the family through our website at www.barnesfuneralchapel.com
