Helen Foth (1924-2022)

Helen (Holly) Stamm Foth, 97 years, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away Sunday afternoon, September 25, 2022 at Kingston Care Center in Sylvania.

She worked as an accountant for several different places including LaChoy, Walter Webster Accountant, Miller Gas, and Steyer Huber and Associates, from which she retired in 1987.

Helen was born December 25, 1924, in Wauseon, Ohio, the daughter of Eva May Lorntz Weber and Charles A. Weber.

She was the Valedictorian of the Archbold High School Class of 1942.  On June 16, 1946 she married Donald Short Stamm at the Archbold United Methodist Church.

They were married for twenty-seven years until Don’s death in 1973.  Together with their daughter Ann they enjoyed many activities.


Helen was a wonderful seamstress, a 4-H leader for many years, and entered the Sauder Village Quilt Challenge until the age of 95.

She had a strong faith in Christ and was a very active member of the Archbold United Methodist Church doing everything from teaching Sunday School and VBS to leading the choir.

On May 18, 1987 she moved to Sylvania and married Chester A. Foth, and they were married 11 years until his death in 1999.


There she was involved in the Sylvania United Methodist Church and also Christian Women’s Club

In her later years she had a wonderful friendship with Ray Dorcas who she met when she was involved with the Sylvania Senior Follies.

She also enjoyed traveling to Texas and Missouri to be with Greg and Dee and their family.


She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Short Stamm, husband Chester A. Foth, daughter Ann Stamm Merrell, brother Donald (Virginia) Weber, nephew Donald Durden, and great grandchild Myra Joy Deal.

She is survived by son-in-law Greg (Dee) Merrell, grandchildren Will (Lindsey) Mitchell and their children and Leigh (Kenneth) Deal and their children, niece Jane Durden, niece Michele (George) Jelen and their family, nephew Brad (Tami) Stamm and their family, nephew Alan Stamm, and several cousins.

Helen was a wonderful, caring, creative, generous person who never missed celebrating life events and never missed a birthday! She will be greatly missed!

Memorial services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, October 1, 2022 at the Archbold United Methodist Church with Pastor Jason Sharp. Family graveside services will precede the Memorial Service at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the Pettisville Cemetery. Friends may call at the Archbold United Methodist Church on Friday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
