The Williams County Fair Board meeting of December 15 began with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by roll call. Nine directors were present.
In the first order of business, the board of directors approved the minutes from the previous November 22 meeting,
Next, the directors approved of both the October and November reports. Through November 22, the fair had a reported net income balance of $58,824.97.
The directors then discussed continuing with craft shows, since the person who had been doing it won’t be doing it anymore because she is going off to college.
The directors decided they want to continue with craft shows and will come up with dates at the next meeting.
Next, director Toby Fenicle stated that Gerald Keegan would like to do a horse pull.
Keegan said that he would set it up and take care of everything. The request was then moved to new business.
Fenicle then stated that a band called “Enough Said” had approached him and would like to set up to perform one night at the fair.
The group has their own stuff. This request was also moved to a discussion in new business.
Fenicle also said that Erin Thiel had approached him and wants to do horse shows during the summer.
President Pam Goll said that she will talk to Thiel about the request.
Fenicle also stated that there had been a water break and that Montpelier village responded quickly and fixed the leak. He gave out free fair passes to the workers.
In looking at law breakers during the fair, it was decided that putting up signs that basically said that “if you’re caught, you’re in trouble”, was a good start.
Next, director Matt Campbell stated that the convention rooms have been confirmed and that he will provide a check for the cost. As far as registration, there will be reimbursement for the spouses.
Campbell then said that he was approached by Broken Horn, who would like to have a rodeo.
They offered a price of $15,000, which is higher than last year. Campbell said that all rodeo prices have gone up and he believes that Broken Horn’s prices will be the cheapest that can be found.
Still, Campbell stated that he will negotiate with Broken Horn regarding the price.
In old business, the Christmas party for the directors is set for January 7, at 7 p.m.
The fair schedule was then discussed. There will be a band show on Monday and the junior fair will take place on Thursday.
Next, the directors approved to have the band Enough Said on Wednesday night, after harness racing.
Also, the directors approved to have the horse pull on Sunday evening, the Broken Horn’s rodeo on Saturday and dirt drag KOI on the last Saturday. Goll said that she will check on other pulls, too, for that Saturday.
In new business, Goll told the committees to review the rules and see if anything needs to be changed.
The directors then approved of having the horse pull.
Next, the directors approved of the following admission fees for the fair: for the rodeo, $10 for adults and $5 for ages 12 and under; $2 unless sponsored, for the band show; $5 for cheer off; $2 for harness racing; $5 for the Enough Said band; no charge for youth night; for the demo derby, $20 for pit passes and $15 for the grandstand; and for admission, $5 per day and $20 for the week.
In regards to the horse pull, the directors decided to hold off on the price until they get more details about the event.
They also decided to hold off on the price for KOI, to make sure they can get them, first.
In announcements, Goll said that the committee lists will be sent to everyone via emailby December 20.
Also, the directors approved to have four sets of bleachers. The directors then voted to adjourn the meeting.
