The Edgerton Village Council began their May 2, 2023 session at 7 p.m., eight minutes after the adjournment of the Edgerton Cemetery Committee meeting.

After the pledge of allegiance and a prayer, roll call was taken. Present were Councilors Lance Bowsher, Sharon Blinzer, Chuck Wallace, Amanda Herman, Jason Gruver, Leslie Vanausdale, and Pam Wampler. Additionally, Fiscal Officer Denise Knecht, Village Administrator Dawn Fitzcharles, Law Director Chris Walker, and Mayor Robert Day.

The mayor noted that the tree dedicated to Tom Kitchen was planted on Wednesday, May 3.

The Day of Prayer event is happening at 12:15-12:45 p.m. to ensure that those that work first shift can participate.

The village administrator related that painting would begin soon on the water tower, as well as that 22.65 tons of trash were collected from Edgerton residents during trash drop-off.

This is in addition to the four tons of scrap metal collected.  An out-of-date siren is planned to be deconstructed.

Edgerton businesses are asked to decorate in red, white, and blue between Memorial Day and September 11, 2023.

Citizens are asked to mow their lawns for the first time this season by May 15, and anyone needing support in achieving this goal is free to call the village offices.

As the weather warms up, police and village administration are working together to tackle blight issues within the Village.

Council approved the financial reports and bills as presented before hearing the police chief report.

Police Chief Plotts reported that Jaxx has lost some weight after his recent surgery but is otherwise getting back to his normal self.

The new taser policy was approved, and the council will need to carry it.

Edgerton has just seen the installation of a forensic interview room, which will help support most vulnerable victims.

Edgerton welcomes the room to other municipalities to use for their youth victims of crime.

Then accepted was a resignation for Intern Village Administrative Assistant effective May 15, 2023, as well as the posting of the position as available before accepted the updated taser policy manual.

An appropriations request was then approved for the revenue made off of the creation of the recent ODD funds account before council rescheduled their May 16 meeting to May 10, 2023 at 5:30 p.m.

Council adjourned the meeting at 7:38 p.m.
