(Lifetime Resident Of Swanton)
Veteran

Dale K. Bechstein, age 91, lifetime resident of Swanton, passed away peacefully under hospice care at Swanton Valley Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.

He was born in Swanton on April 2, 1932 to George “Joe” Bechstein and Bertha (Hoffer) Bechstein. After attending Delta High School, Dale entered the Marine Corps on December 5, 1951, where he served as a crash crewman and airplane mechanic during the Korean War before being honorably discharged on December 2, 1953.

On June 6, 1954, he married Donelda Bender and together shared 68 loving years together until her passing on December 23, 2021.

After returning from his service in the Marines, Dale joined his family business and eventually became owner of Bechstein & Sons Trucking and Excavating and remained with them until retiring in 2009.

He and his wife enjoyed traveling to Florida and Arizona during the winter season.

Some of Dale’s fondest hobbies included creating stained glass, silversmithing jewelry and wood carving; all of which he would sell at craft shows.

His expert gift of carving led to approximately 100 intricately designed canes, which he would donate to veterans in need.

Dale is survived by his children, James Bechstein; Steven (Linda) Bechstein; Thomas (Carol) Bechstein; Julie (Brian) McQuillin; grandchildren, Hope Cox; Bryan Bechstein; Mikal Bechstein; Jillian Bozarth; Amanda Maynhart; Joel Bechstein; Lisa McQuillin; Amy Miller and 12 great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Donelda, he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Linda Sue Bechstein and brothers, George, Norman and Bruce Bechstein.

In honoring Dale’s wishes, there will be a private graveside service for Dale and Donelda at Shiloh Cemetery in Delta. Arrangements were entrusted to Barnes Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 5825 St. Rt. 109, Delta.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg, Ohio 43551 in Dale’s memory.

Online condolences may be sent to the family through our website at www.barnesfuneralchapel.com.
