Edward G. Krauss, age 91, of Swanton, passed away peacefully at his home early Tuesday morning April 29, 2015. He was the son of the late Charles and Marie (Klorer) Krauss.
Ed grew up helping his father operate a threshing ring, which influenced him to become a farmer. Ed rented his first farm at the age of 16. He farmed for over 43 years. In addition to farming, Ed drove school bus for Swancreek Twp., was employed by American Swiss Stamping Co. and was a truck driver for 32 years. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 20 and continued as a charter member. Ed’s church affiliation included Brailey Union Church; where he was a board member for 30 years and several years served as an Elder and youth leader. Later Ed was associated with Crossroads Evangelical Church. His Christian service included a Mexico mission trip to help build a church. He collected and restored old farm equipment and had a substancial collection of vintage toy tractors.
Ed’s first marriage was to Twila Mae Belcher in 1943. She passed away in 1994. Together they had three children, Linda (Michael) Falor, Susan (Randolph) Stultz and Thomas (Elaine) Krauss; grandchildren, Kevin (Kelley) Falor who passed away, Kyle (Nikki) Falor, Kris (James) Osborn, Perry (Amber) Stultz, Sarah Krauss and Emily (Mitchell) Zalesak; 10 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Ed’s second marriage was to Bernetta Flucking Meller; who also preceded him in death. He included her three children as family, Gary (Gretchen) Meller, Jerry (Dee) Meller and Jack (Pam) Meller; 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Edward is survived by his brother, William Krauss and sister, Mildred Evans. Ed was also preceded in death by his sisters, Roseabelle Krauss, Ruth Smout and Helena Kunkle.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Friday, May 1, 2015 at Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St. Hwy. 109 in Delta; where a funeral service honoring Ed’s life will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday. Interment will take place at Highland Memory Gardens in Waterville prior to the service. Pastor Roger Andrews will be officiating.
