METAMORA – Possibly the most feared softball player in Northwest Ohio will be taking her big bat and shotgun like arm to a Power 5 Conference as Evergreen catcher Macy Chamberlin signed a national letter of intent to take her game to Penn State.

Chamberlin, who will play her senior season this coming spring, hit 21 home runs last season and has 42 in her career to date. That number is sixth in the all-time OHSAA record book.

Chamberlin hit .731 last year, all the above figures came against those who were brave enough to pitch to her as the Vikings’ catcher was also walked 14 times intentionally.

“Macy is a great ambassador for Evergreen softball and the Evergreen community,” Viking coach Jim Zoltowski said of his star hitter who helped lead Evergreen to back-to-back league titles her freshman and sophomore seasons.

“Her work ethic and softball IQ make her an excellent player and she is a leader both on and off the field.” Zoltowski says Chamberlin is a well-known figure amongst girls who are striving to become more skilled on the field.

“She spends hours around the game from volunteering as a 12U EYA softball coach. She gives lessons and just spends time with anyone who is around the game.”

“She is the best high school hitter I have ever coached or seen. We are excited for her and our team’s upcoming season as well as watching her in her college career.

Chamberlin explained her decision to go to Happy Valley. “People ask me that a lot of what went into my choice,” she explained. “Penn State not only sees me as a softball player but they also see me as a student athlete.”

“I thought that was something big for me in my decision-making process. Another reason was when I went on my official visit, I got to meet a number of players and I got to see that there was a family atmosphere which is really important to me.”

Chamberlin has also smacked 24 doubles and five triples in her career and has struck out just four times in her first three years at Evergreen. Her career batting average to this point is .685. Last season in 21 games behind the plate, she did not commit a passed ball.
