Carolyn “Joan” Riehle (1934 – 2024)

Carolyn J. “Joan” Riehle, age 89, of Edgerton, Ohio, entered her heavenly home at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, January 15, 2024, at The Laurels of DeKalb in Butler, Indiana, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Riehle was a 1952 graduate of Edgerton High School and graduated from the Toledo Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse.

She was a devoted farm wife who had also worked for Dr. Doe in Edgerton and later for Bryan Nursing Care Center.


Joan was an active member of Emanuel United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and Bible school. She was also a member of the Priscilla Club, Edgerton Garden Club, and the United Methodist Women.

For many years she enjoyed a card ministry, sending cards of encouragement to friends and family.

Carolyn J. “Joan” Riehle was born on June 29, 1934, in Edgerton, Ohio, the daughter of Edwin C. and Mabel M. (Gabriel) Krill.


She married her husband of fifty-five years, Raymond E. Riehle, on November 27, 1955, in Edgerton and he preceded her in death on June 30, 2011.

Survivors include her children, Karyn (Tom) Schneider, of Findlay, Ohio, Kristine (Jerome) Bartley and Kermit (Denise) Riehle, both of Edgerton, and Kyle (Trish) Riehle, of South Lyon, Michigan; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Norma Riehle, of Houston, Texas; a sister-in-law, Dolores Krill, of Bryan, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Keith Robinson, of Defiance, Ohio; and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Kevin Riehle; her twin brother, C. Jon Krill; and three sisters, Martha Pirtle, Hilda Meyers, and Dorothy Dunkle.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 19, 2024, from 2:00-7:00 P.M. in the Emanuel United Methodist Church near Edgerton. Services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. in the Emanuel United Methodist Church with her niece, Darcy Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton.


Memorials are requested to Emanuel United Methodist Church, Kevin Riehle Music Scholarship c/o The Edgerton Area Foundation, or to a hospice of the donor’s choice.
