Lois Fortner (1933 – 2024)

Lois Fortner, age 90, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away at 2:58 A.M. on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Bryan Care and Rehabilitation Center where she had been a resident.

Mrs. Fortner worked in housekeeping at Bard Manufacturing for many years. She was a member of Eastland Baptist Church in Bryan where was a Sunday School teacher and had worked with their food pantry.

She enjoyed keeping up her yard and home, working crossword puzzles, but most of all she enjoyed time with her family.


Lois was born on September 12, 1933 in Hancock County, Tennessee, the daughter of Ellis O. and Effie M. (Harkins) Russell.

She married James Fortner on January 14, 1961, in St. Marys, Ohio, and preceded her in death on January 14, 2012.

Lois is survived by one daughter, Teresa (Darrell) Betts, of Toledo, Ohio; two sons, James S. (Malgorzata “Maggie”) Fortner and Tony Fortner, both of Bryan; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two sisters, Elsie Fortner, of Mansfield and Helen Sanders, of Bryan.


She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and two sisters, Geneva Russell, and Jean Huddleston.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 12:00 P.M. in the Eastland Baptist Church in Bryan, with Pastors Jeff Sheldon and Allen Sanders officiating. Visitation will be held in the church two hours prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in Shiffler Cemetery.  Lois’ arrangements are under the care of Krill Funeral Service, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan.
