In the past year, the Swanton Fire & Rescue Division has demonstrated exceptional dedication and service to the community. From July 1st, 2022, to June 30th, 2023, the department responded to 1329 calls for service, showing unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of the residents.
1051 of these calls were for EMS services and 278 were for Fire, highlighting the diverse and vital roles the department plays in emergency response.
Throughout the following year, from July 1st, 2023, to June 30th, 2024, the department continued to uphold their commitment, responding to 1093 calls for service.
With 872 calls for EMS and 221 for fire, the department demonstrated adaptability and readiness in the face of evolving community needs.
Despite a 17.5% decrease in call volume, the department’s steadfast service and resilience remained unwavering.
The department also welcomed eight new employees, marking a pivotal moment in their journey of growth and development. These positions were created as part of a comprehensive plan to enhance daily staffing levels in an attempt to optimize their service capabilities.
Additionally, the forthcoming arrival of the 2024 Sutphen SP75 Quint fire truck symbolizes the department’s proactive approach to embracing advanced technology and equipment to bolster their emergency response capabilities.
The impact of Swanton Fire & Rescue Division also extends beyond emergency response, as they have significantly expanded their community engagement initiatives.
By revitalizing their CPR Training Program and offering several educational classes to the community, they have effectively elevated public awareness and safety preparedness.
Their participation in “Touch-A-Truck” style events at local venues has further strengthened their rapport with the community, fostering an environment of mutual trust and support.
The department’s people-centric approach is also true due to their commitment to enhancing employee satisfaction and well-being.
They have proactively addressed employee fatigue and burnout concerns by implementing a staffing model that allows personnel to be assigned to different apparatus, thereby fostering a conducive work environment and ensuring optimal operational readiness.
The department’s influence is also greatly extended through partnerships. This is made evident through their collaboration with Penta Career Center’s Fire Science program, which helps to nurture future talents.
Their commitment to community and workforce development is a testament to their forward-thinking approach and their relentless pursuit of excellence.
With 10 full-time employees, including the Fire Chief, and 16 part-time employees, the department embodies a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and continuous learning.
By fostering an active fire prevention and public education bureau alongside an extensive training program, they are actively shaping a future where safety, knowledge, and preparedness reign supreme. The Swanton Fire Department continues to stand ready to answer the call every single day.
