James “Jim” Clingaman (1936 – 2024)

(First Member Of Riverside Greens Golf Course)

James “Jim” Sheridan Clingaman, age 87, of Stryker, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at CHP Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance, Ohio, surrounded by his family.

Jim was born December 6, 1936, in Archbold, Ohio, the son of the late Andrew and Ethel (Schaffner) Clingaman.

After graduating from Archbold High School in 1954, he married Wanda Sue Westfall on December 1, 1956, and she preceded him in death on May 21, 2019.


Jim worked at Gotshall Lumber, and then the former Dinner Bell until they closed in 1990, and then Archbold Furniture until his retirement.

Jim was an avid golfer and was the first member of Riverside Greens Golf Course in Stryker, from 1967 until they closed in 2022.

Surviving are three sons; Gary (Diane) Clingaman of Wauseon, Ohio, Jeffrey (Laura) Clingaman and James S. “Jamie” (Dawn) Clingaman, Jr, both of Stryker, grandchildren; Kimberly Clingaman, Terrence (Beth) Clingaman, Hunter (Michaela) Clingaman, Tanner Clingaman, Hayden (Emili) Clingaman, Spencer Clingaman and Oliviah Clingaman; step-grandchildren, Nancy Leahy, Rex (Tara) Leahy, and Jay Leahy; great-grandchildren, Claire Clingaman, Charlie Clingaman and Cate Clingaman. He is also survived by his sister, Hattie Brodbeck of Manitou Beach, Michigan, and many nieces and nephews.


Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter, Rebecca Sue, brother, Jerry Clingaman, great-grandson, Clayton Clingaman and brother-in-law, Howard “Cy” Brodbeck.

Visitation for Jim will be held from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. on Friday, August 2, 2024, at the United Brethren Church in Stryker. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Stryker.

The family requests that memorial contributions be given to CHP Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance, Ohio.
