Charlene Young (1943 – 2024)

(Volunteered At Bryan Senior Center)

Charlene H. Young, age 81, of Bryan, passed away Friday, August 16, 2024, at the Laurels of DeKalb in Butler, Indiana.

Charlene worked at K-Mart for over 25 years starting as a clerk and then running the Lay-Away department.

She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Bryan American Legion Auxiliary.


Charlene volunteered at the Bryan Senior Center and CWU Thrift Store for many years. She enjoyed camping and fishing in the summers and spending time in Arizona and Las Vegas in the winters.

She loved taking care of her family by sewing clothes for her girls when they were young, raising large gardens, canning, cooking and baking.

Charlene was born on July 7, 1943, in Bryan, Ohio, the daughter of Baxter L. and Otha L. (Hudkins) Lemons. She married William H. Young on October 15, 1960 in Bryan and he survives.


Charlene is also survived by her daughters, Christine (Roger) Haver, of Defiance, Shelly (Lou Mangano) Young, of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Bobbianne (Tim) Brown, of Edon; son, Rob (Jessica) Young, of Bryan; 19 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren with one on the way.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Carlton (Wilma) Lemons; nephews, Paul and Todd Lemons and niece, Angie Forbes.

Visitation for Charlene will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 10:00am-12:00pm at Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio. Funeral services will be held immediately following visitation with Pastor Steve Rath officiating. Burial will follow at Shiffler Cemetery.

The family requests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
