EDON VILLAGE COUNCIL: ODNR Test Drills At Walz Park & MOU For Edon Schools SRO Discussed

EDON COUNCIL … The Edon Village Council approved an ordinance allowing the ODNR to proceed with two test drills at Walz Park.

The Edon Village Council met on August 19th at 7 pm. Council members David Loughborough, Jeff Pease, Austin Thiel, Lee Lawrence, Dan Ankney, Brian Shaffer, Mayor Duane Thiel, Village Administrator Chad Ordway, and Fiscal Officer Heidi Bidwell were present.

Police Chief Tom Szymczak, Solicitor Tom Thompson, guest Rebecca Miller, and a few community members were also in attendance.

Mayor Duane Thiel called the meeting to order at 7 pm after the Pledge of Allegiance. The mayor asked the council if they read over the meeting minutes, financial reports, and bills and asked for a motion to approve. All items were approved by the council.


Next on the agenda was the reading of communications. Fiscal Officer Heidi Bidwell gave her communications report that October 19th is scheduled to be the big trash/fall pick-up day.

Guest Rebecca Miller approached the council to invite them to the Bryan Area Christian Prayer Breakfast on September 24th at Wesley United Methodist Church in Bryan.

The continental breakfast starts at 8:30 am with the program at 10 am with guest speaker Jack Brace Director of LifeWise and music by Joe Rath.


Miller explained that this prayer breakfast began 69 years ago in Washington DC and our area, it has been going strong for 49 years. Tickets are $8.00 and may be bought at the door or by calling 614-849-5986.

Police Chief Tom Szymczak reported that Edon Days went very well this year, and he was at the school to welcome back the students on the first day.

There was nothing to report from safety, park, cemetery, finance, or zoning committees. Village Administrator Chad Ordway gave his public works report, stating that hydrant flushing began at Walz Park.


For old business, second reading of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for an Edon School Resource Officer (SRO). For new business Resolution 04-24 CO OP agreement with ODNR for two test drills at Walz Park motion suspended by Lawrence and seconded by Loughborough. Motion passed by Ankney seconded by Pease.

Ordinance 04-24 accepts the plat of Victory Industrial Hub (right of way vs public property) motion suspended by Lawrence seconded by Ankney. Motion accepted by Ankney seconded by Lawrence.

Ordinance 05-24 approving replat lots 15-16 to lot 15 in Rockey Addition which combines the two lots into one suspended by Lawrence seconded by Pease motion, approved by Ankney seconded by Loughborough.

A member of the community voiced concerns about a neighbor draining soapy bleach water onto her property and asked to put up sandbags. She also voiced concerns about the same neighbor’s unleashed dogs.

Szymczak informed the citizen that he would revisit the situation and council members Lawrence and Pease advised the resident to call the police when the dogs are at large so that the dog warden may be notified to investigate.

The Edon Village Council meeting adjourned at 7:31 pm to enter into an executive session to discuss zoning. The next village council meeting will be held September 16th at 7 pm.
