Jimmy Wiles (1950 – 2024)

Jimmy D. Wiles, 74, of Edgerton, Ohio, passed unexpectedly Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at his residence.

Jimmy was born July 4, 1950, in Saginaw, Michigan, son of the late Wyman H. and Fedora (Cartier) Wiles.

He was a 1969 graduate of Buena Vista High School. Jimmy served in the United States Army from August 19, 1969, until his honorable discharge on August 10, 1971.


He married Helen A. Harper on April 28, 1972, in Bridgeport, Michigan, and she survives. Jimmy worked for General Motors for over 30 years, starting in Saginaw, Michigan, and finishing his career in Defiance, Ohio. He also ran a karate school in Sherwood for over ten years while working at GM.

In retirement, Jimmy worked for Lowe’s in Defiance. He was a member of the Montpelier Moose Lodge 312. Jimmy enjoyed wintering in Winter Haven, Florida, with his wife Helen.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of Edgerton; two sons, Kevin (Rachel) Wiles of Toledo, Ohio, and Keith Wiles of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and a sister, Marion (Jerry) Beard of Temperance, Michigan. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Fred Wiles.


Visitation for Jimmy D. Wiles will be held Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 1:00 – 4:00 P.M. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan, Ohio, where Military Rites will be accorded at 4:00 P.M. by the honor detail from the Farmer American Legion Post 137. Interment will take place at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, September 9, 2024, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Saginaw, Michigan.

Memorial contributions can be directed to the Farmer American Legion Post 137. Condolences may be sent to the family, or the online guestbook may be signed at www.oberlinturnbull.com.
