Michael Short (1949 – 2024)

(Member Of Archbold Community Theater)

Michael Dean Short, age 75, of Archbold, passed away on December 16, 2024 at the Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center. Michael worked as IT Director for the Napoleon Filling Home of Mercy.

Michael was born on May 4, 1949, in Wauseon, to the late Walter and Ilva (Sauder) Short.

He graduated from Archbold High School and later graduated from Goshen College with a Bachelor’s Degree of Art. On June 2, 1984, he married the love of his life, Dana (Barber), and she survives.

Michael enjoyed the lake and water skiing earlier in his life. He also enjoyed reading and gardening. Michael was a founding member of Archbold Community Theater, and directed and worked on many shows throughout his life, both for Archbold Community Theater and local schools.

He was a lifelong member of Central Mennonite Church, and later attended Peace Mennonite Fellowship the last few years. He loved supporting his churches and volunteering his time. Michael loved his family; spending time with his children, grandchildren, and dogs.

Surviving Michael is his wife, Dana; son, Brice (Jacquelyn) Short of Archbold; daughter, Casey (Phoenyx) Banyan of South Dakota; grandchildren, Carter Short and Juniper Banyan; sister, Sally Roth of Bluffton; sister, Diane (Ron) Lantz of Archbold; and brother, Brad (Lisa) Short of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Tom Roth.

A celebration of Michael’s life will take place at a later date.
