(Played Piano & Organ For Many Churches)
Audrey Elizabeth Mason was born February 27, 1949 in Providence, Rhode Island to Audrey and Frederick Mason Jr.
As the middle child of three girls Betsy’s commitment to VIP status began with her love for music.
At an early age she started playing piano by ear, dazzling friends and family with her talents.
She shared her gift by playing both piano and organ for many churches as well as teaching piano lessons. Betsy graduated from Mary C. Wheeler School for Girls in Providence, RI and later attended Ohio Wesleyan.
During the course of her first marriage she welcomed a son, James, who became a Civil Engineer like his father. A daughter, Marsha, who shared her mother’s passion for music and became a professional opera singer.
She later married Jeffrey Schmitt, and he served her faithfully until his passing in 2019. Together they created Caroline who would act as their comic relief and caretaker until their final days.
Betsy also ‘adopted’ an exchange student Lars Althoff, gave him the middle name Christian, and was able to visit him in Germany and stay in touch stateside over the years.
Left in her wake are James (Anya) Miller, Westerville, OH. Marsha (Adam) Ackerman, Woodbridge, CT. Step-son Brant (Sandy) Schmitt, Hilliard, OH. And Caroline (Shane) Hancock, Archbold, OH. Grandchildren; Nico and Sofia Miller, Jackson and Mason Ackerman, Olivia Schmitt, and Emmaline, Stella, Maggie Hancock. Sisters, Abby and Laura Mason, and very special friends Donna Friesen, Mia Smitt, and Cindy Gustwiller.
Betsy is finally reunited with her parents, husband, and Danny Kaye. In keeping with her wishes there will be no formal services as she only wished to be returned to the sea.
