Shirley M. Nofziger, age 80 years, of Archbold, passed away, Monday afternoon, December 30, 2024 at Parkview Hospital Randallia in Fort Wayne, IN surrounded by her family.
She was born November 4, 1944 in Hillsdale, MI, the daughter of Frank and Ethel (Hewith) Roesener. She married Peter W. Nofziger on June 26, 1964 and he survives.
She was a Member of Central Mennonite Church in Archbold where she faithfully attended many years, being part of the women’s sewing group and teaching Sunday school.
She participated in many Emmaus weekend retreats and supported the Kairos ministry program by making hundreds of dozens of cookies. She was happiest in the kitchen, making food and baked goods to share with her friends and family.
She was well known for her ground cherry pie. She also enjoyed sewing and reading. She was a supportive and encouraging mother and grandmother attending many school and sporting events.
She worked part time over the years and made numerous friendships which she treasured. Shirley and Pete enjoyed their retirement years by traveling to various parts of the US, vacationing and volunteering at Little Eden Campground.
She is survived by her husband, Peter; two children Rodney (Sarah) Nofziger of Custar and Laneé (Michael) Benson of Bryan; grandchildren Colton Benson (Riley Bloir), Caylin Benson (Quinn Zaerr), Jaxcyn Nofziger, Wyatt Nofziger, Stetson Nofziger, Everett Nofziger; brother Jim (Carolyn) Roesener; sisters-in-law, Vietta Nofziger, Nola Harnish, Marlene (Ed) Baer, brothers-in-law, Ed (Carol) Nofziger, Milton (Donna) Nofziger, and Lee (Rachel) Hershberger, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Bryan, and three brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law and a nephew.
Friends may call at the church on Friday, January 10 from 4-7PM and from 9-11AM prior to the funeral on Saturday. Services will be held on Saturday, January 11, at 11AM at Central Mennonite Church with Pastor Ron Kauffman officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30PM in the Lockport Cemetery.
Short Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with the arrangements. The family suggests that memorials be given to Little Eden Camp, Mennonite Central Committee or It All Matters.
