(Vietnam Era Army Veteran)
Thomas Paul Caplandies, Sr. age 75, formerly of Albany, New York, passed peacefully on January 17, 2025.
He was born on August 11, 1949 to John and Erma Borger Caplandies in Albany, New York.
Thomas married the love of his life, Yvonne C. Caplandies on August 9, 1986 in Bloomingburg, New York.
Together they celebrated nearly 40 years of marriage before she predeceased him less than a year ago. For Thomas, there was no world in which he wished to live without Yvonne. Sadly, he shortly followed in her footsteps through his own cancer journey.
Thomas was a very proud Vietnam Era Army Veteran who eagerly enlisted on Halloween. Thomas loved to meet a fellow veteran. During his later years, he never left the house without his army cap.
His family will remember him for his grumpy, yet dedicated spirit. He was the first to crack a joke or tell a story to break the ice. Thomas was the person many would call in their time of need.
He would drop everything in a heartbeat to truly help in any way possible whether it be a shoulder to cry on, a strong hand to help repair something, or even a lend watchful eye so you could feel safe.
Thomas loved to fish, hunt, and watch tv (especially youtube to Yvonne’s dismay). He proudly displayed an extensive duck collection. You could also find him playing shooting games, especially Fallout or Doom (making a point to always use god mode).
To celebrate and remember Tom’s life, please take a moment to enjoy one of his favorite foods-– hot cheetos, hot pickles, hot dogs (he had a bit of a theme) feta and strawberries, watermelon, spam, a tuna sandwich, or cucumber, tomato, and onion salad.
He is survived by his daughter, Fawn Caplandies and her husband, Shawn Stevens, Son Thomas Caplandies Jr. and Partner Kim Flodin, Son John Caplandies (deceased) and by his loving grandchildren, Thomas, Cody, Kearstin, and Jenna. As well as, great-grandchildren, sisters, nieces, nephews, friends and doting pets ChiChi and ChaCha (deceased).
Visitation was on Monday, January 20, 2025 at Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon with his funeral service immediately following visitation with Celebrant Adam Grisier officiating. Fulton County Honor Guard rendered military honors.
