Montpelier, OH — The Williams County community is coming together to support Maverick Bethel, a young child facing the challenges of Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), a severe congenital heart defect.

A benefit event is scheduled for March 30th, from 1 PM to 4 PM, at the Williams County Veterans Memorial, located at 875 E Main St, Montpelier, OH 43543.

Maverick Bethel was born on May 15th, 2024, and has since undergone multiple life-saving medical procedures. At just two days old, Maverick had his first open-heart surgery at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, followed by a lengthy 41-day recovery period.

In September 2024, Maverick faced further complications, including two cardiac arrests, which led to 12 days on ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) and a second surgery.

His journey took another critical turn on October 20th, when a heart transplant became his only viable option. As he awaits a donor heart, Maverick remains in the hospital on a Berlin Heart, a mechanical device that supports his heart function.

The upcoming benefit aims to alleviate the financial burden of Maverick’s mounting medical expenses. Attendees can show their support by purchasing and wearing a special t-shirt on the day of the event.

The benefit will feature a variety of activities, including a lunch, a 50/50 raffle, and a Chinese raffle, providing an opportunity for the community to come together and make a difference.

For further information about the event or to learn how you can contribute, please contact Melanie Lehman at (419) 551-7694. Your support can make a significant impact on Maverick and his family’s journey.
