The Evergreen Local Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, August 18, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Loren Pennington Learning Center, with two visitors in attendance.
Members approved minutes from July 21, 2025, and accepted July financial reports, including cash reconciliation, economic and cash summaries, and the disbursement summary.
The board also acknowledged donations that support students and staff, including a $100 anonymous gift to the Student Assistance Fund and $400 from the Fulton County Alumni to the Evergreen Elementary Principal Fund.
Board members updated the district’s spending plan for the new year. Grants and modified appropriations were approved and resources amended for several programs, among them IDEA Early Childhood Education for $6,595.70, Title II A for $31,132.45, $109.08 for Title I, Title IV for $10,715.35, and McKinney Vento for $11,309.28.
The board also approved permanent appropriations for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026. A depository agreement with The State Bank and Trust Company will run from December 21, 2025, through December 31, 2030.
Personnel moves set the table for the start of classes. The board offered a one-year, limited non-teaching contract to Laura Gomoll as a bus driver beginning with the 2025 to 2026 school year.
An increase of one-half hour per day was approved for Evergreen Elementary aide Sue Szabo. The resignation for the purpose of retirement of aide Cheri Davoll was accepted effective September 30, 2025.
Supplemental roles were adjusted. Three Elementary Building Leadership Team assignments were rescinded for Amber Hansel, Diane Pickering, and Andrea Hesson, while Becky Laver, Kelsey Ford, and Jackie Mossing were named to the team for 2025 to 2026, pending required permits.
The board also approved a supplemental contract for Mike Dilley as varsity assistant coach for cross country. Paid and volunteer event workers at the middle and high school were approved, including Beth Sintobin, Troy Manz, and Audra Roesti.
To support student programs, the board authorized payment to Alexis Howell for Supervised Agricultural Experiences assessments and visits through Agricultural Education Fifth Quarter funds and cleared all teachers in the 2025 to 2026 school year to take on approved additional hours or supervision for programs such as ZAP, SOS Tutoring, after school detention, and Friday School at the contracted hourly rate.
The superintendent was authorized to enter into agreements with accredited colleges and universities to place education students in district schools during the year. Technology items from Holy Trinity were approved for disposal.
Two overnight FFA trips were approved. Students will travel to the Ohio FFA State Soils competition from October 10 to October 11, 2025, under the supervision of teacher Alexis Howell, with costs covered by the chapter. New FFA members will attend Greenhand Camp from September 26 to September 28, 2025, under Ms. Howell’s supervision, with costs covered by students.
The district also approved a service agreement with New Horizon’s Academy at Sara’s Garden for special education services and a contract with Toledo Pediatric Speech Therapy LLC to serve Holy Trinity Catholic School students under IDEA, funded through IDEA B.
In discussion, the board heard updates on school zone LED signage and summer projects and noted additional community support. Gleaners Insurance provided welcome back bags for staff, St. Mary’s Meats and Viking Pizzeria supported the FFA officer retreat, and the Fulton County Extension Office contributed to the Manure Expo.
Superintendent Eric Smola reported that preparations are complete to welcome students on August 20, 2025. Students in grades seven through twelve have information on accessing free athletic passes for home events, and fall sports schedule cards are expected later this week.
A special board meeting is set for Monday, September 15, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. for a campus tour, followed by the regular meeting at 6:00 p.m., both in the Loren Pennington Learning Center.
