Edon Village Council met in regular session on Monday, September 15, dealing with a safety concern regarding a stop sign in the village.

Council members present were Lee Lawrence, Jeff Pease, David Loughborough, Dan Ankney, and Austin Thiel, while Brian Shaffer was absent.

Lawrence had already asked the safety committee to meet to review and discuss the stop sign at the corner of South Michigan and Franklin Streets.

He pointed out that the difficulty is for trucks to turn when customers are parked in the Dairy Treat lot and the church parking lot.

Council approved a third and final reading on Ordinance 03-25 establishing no parking areas within the village and declaring it an emergency.

A resolution allowing political subdivisions within a single county or within counties to adjoin one another to become participating political subdivisions of a single ESID (Edon Energy Special Improvement District).

This resolution is at the request of qualifying owners of real property. It will be expanded to include additional real property located within anyone or more participating political subdivisions. It passed by a 5-0 vote.

Village administrator Chad Ordway updated council members on issues and projects he is and will be working on through this month.

He also told the council there was no update on the Woodville Street property, and he is still working with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on the plans for a Wastewater Treatment Plant so they can be approved.

Ordway has been working with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) for a 2028 grant for downtown refurbishment. He is also compiling all village electric accounts for a new contract for the best rates with the distributor Dynergy.

Police Chief Thomas Szymczak presented the August police report. He stated that all officers have completed their continuing professional training.

Also, Sergeant Monica Goebel, School Resource Officer, has been covering athletic games and other events for the school district.

Mayor Duane Thiel appointed Tim Moore to serve on the park board. He replaces Morgan Hamrick, who had moved out of the district.

Lawrence made a motion to have village solicitor Tom Thompson prepare an ordinance to rename the portion of Woodville Street that runs north and south off of East Indiana Street, extending to the village limits. The motion passed 5-0.

In communication matters, council has set the village’s Trick or Treat activities for Friday, October 31, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The village-wide trash pickup will take place on October 18. Residents may contact the village office or check the website for a list of acceptable items.

Council also thanked the Edon Area Foundation for its grant of $2,100 to purchase banners, replacing military banners over the winter months.

The council went into executive session to discuss pending litigation and property acquisition, with no action taken.

The next council meeting will be on Monday, October 20.
