DEFIANCE – Archbold put together quite an impressive performance in dominating its way to the TSBW Battle of the Fort Girls Wrestling Tournament championship held on Saturday, December 27 at Defiance High School.
The Lady Streaks claimed the team title with 214.5 points outdistancing runner-up Findlay who finished with 132 points.
Liberty Benton was third with 115 points followed by Yale, Michigan 103.5, Defiance 100, Fairview 90, Niles, Michigan 86, Oregon Clay 75, Napoleon 70, and Wayne Trace 61 rounding out the top ten team finishers.
Montpelier was 13th with 44 points, Evergreen was 17th with 35 points, Bryan was 18th with 32 points, Swanton was 20th with 24 points and Edgerton was 23rd with 15 points.
Archbold crowned three individual champions with Kate Brenneman (145), Vivi Legato (155) and Gabby Oregon (235) all winning by fall in their respective title bouts.
Brenneman (16-3) scored a fall over Bella Flippin of Liberty Benton in 4:40, Legato (15-2) decked Dhani McCray of Findlay in 42 seconds and Oregon avenged an earlier season setback with a fall over McKenna Hanes of Findlay in 1:50.
Also winning an individual title was Juliannne Curtis of Evergreen who claimed the 105-pound championship with a fall over Cecelia Claypool of Liberty Benton in 3:39.
Finishing runner-up for Archbold were Carys Jacobs (100), Jerica Sprague (115), and Taeya Moyer (140).
Jacobs was pinned by Bianca Martinez-Sandoval of Niles, Michigan in 3:35 in her title bout. Sprague was defeated by Neveah Smith of Hicksville in 1:44 and Moyer fell to Audrey Whitener of Findlay in 1:19.
Others placing for the Streaks were Jassana Gonzales (120), Lila Nichols (130) and Sadie Hausch (145) as they all finished fourth in their respective weight classes. Cailynn Dominique was sixth at 125. Meg Ames (170) and Elizabeth Draggoo (190) both finished seventh.
Montpelier had three place finishers with Madyson Smith (190) placing third; Harlee Salazar (170) was fifth and Alyska Brown (140) was sixth.
Edgerton’s Layla Gale was runner-up in the 125-B weight division as she lost to Abby Furr of Wapakoneta in 2:20 in her title bout.
Effie Klauda of Evergreen placed sixth at 190 pounds, where she was pinned by Nadia King of Hicksville in 4:17.
Ryleigh Chambers of Swanton finished as runner-up in the 190-pound weight class. Chambers was pinned by Evie Parmalee of Liberty Benton in 3:02 in the finals.
Bryan had three of its wrestlers finish among the top eight individual wrestlers. Payton Geiner finished runner-up in the 125-pound weight class. She dropped a 14-4 major decision to Isabella Jordan of Defiance in the finals.
Also placing for the Golden Bears were Rylee Arquette who finished third in the 125-B pound weight class and Gretchen Kennedy was seventh at 155 pounds.
