Jay-Saylor-WEBJay L. Saylor, 86 years, of Sherwood, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Genesis HealthCare – Twin Rivers, Defiance.  Jay was born October 8, 1929 in Sherwood, the son of the late Clayton John and Ethel Mae (Balser) Saylor.  He was a 1948 graduate of Mark Center High School.  He served in the United States Air Force from 1948 – 1950.  He married Janis C. Saylor on October 20, 1951, and she preceded him in death on November 27, 2006.

Jay was a Tool & Die Setter, working for S & K Tools in Defiance as a Supervisor, for 39 years, retiring on December 31, 1991.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cecil as well as the I.A & M Local 1356, where he served as Treasurer.  Jay enjoyed woodworking and tinkering in the barn, fixing many things, and figuring out how to fix anything that broke.  He also found joy in assisting his grandson out on the farm.  Jay and Janis also spent their winters in Sarasota, Florida, and considered themselves “snow birds”

Surviving are two sons, Burnell (Sinda) Saylor of Sherwood, Larry (Rhonda) Saylor of Garrett, Indiana; one daughter-in-law, Tammy Saylor of Defiance; six grandchildren, Jason (Jennie) Saylor, Jared (Brandy) Saylor, Matthew (Tosha) Saylor, Phillip (Elizabeth) Saylor, Ashley (Lance) Newman and Josh (Abby) Imber; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Janis; one son, Gary Saylor, two brothers, Lee Saylor and Virgil Saylor and four sisters, Mary Woodbury, Fanchon Wolfgang Saylor, Nellie Schutt and Ila Byrd

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or to the Defiance County Humane Society.
