Northwest Ohio Toastmasters Discuss Potential Presidential Candidates At March Meeting

Presidential politics created significant discussion at the NW Ohio Toastmasters meeting March 7.

The Table Topic was for members to present pros and cons on candidates for the March 15 Ohio primary vote.

Larry Zuvers of Bryan coordinated the discussion about influencing people with both spoken and written words. There were three rules. Not allowed was mud-slinging or talk about body parts. Also there was no diverting from the topic.

Nearly all the discussion was pro, con, and neutral statements about Donald Trump. There was one pro for Bernie Sanders and no discussion on other candidates.

“You are what you eat”, was the title of the speech by Karen Lyke of Whitehouse. As a nutrition instructor, she explored diets with meats, cheese, tofu, and vegan. It was apparent to her that a vegetable only diet lacked adequate nutrition. She found that a balanced diet with grass fed meats and milk was the best way to eat.

The word of the day was ‘Jettison’ which was presented by Jane Hibbard of Stryker. The definition of this verb is to throw goods out of a boat or an airplane.

General evaluation of the meeting was lead by Darlene Sheperd of Bryan. This included speech evaluation by Wendy Chan of Bryan, AH counting by Loretta Torres of Fayette, and timing report by Loretta Torres of Fayette.

New member and toastmaster Nancy Michaelis of Napoleon, lead the overall meeting. She ended the evening with thoughts of how we choose our attitude to either look down at the mud or look up at the sunshine.

Guests are always welcome to attend Northwest Ohio Toastmasters’ meetings on the first and third Monday of each month at 6:30 pm in the Allied Health Building Conference Room H104 at Northwest State Community College south of Archbold.
